Policy Statement

Syracuse University complies with New York State labor laws regarding the right of nursing mothers to express breast milk in the workplace. Supervisors are required to make reasonable efforts to provide space in proximity to the work area for nursing mothers to express milk in privacy for a period of up to three years following the birth of a child. Employees may use their normal break or meal time for this purpose, or a reasonable amount of time during their regular work shift. Discrimination against or termination of an employee for exercising this right is prohibited.
